Two cars moving in opposite direction cover some distance 'd' in one hour. If the cars were moving in north-south direction, what will be their displacement in one hour?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think d.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2d because one moves south 1d and the other moves north 1d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d because displacement is 'the difference between the path of the initial and final position covered by a moving object'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in this question the distance and displacement is the same, as the opposite direction can be said equal to as north-south direction. The two cars covers distance of d in an hour. Therefore the displacement will be d for each for the car assuming the initial position is same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in this question the distance covered in one hour is d ,but since they are in the opposite direction, the displacement of one car is the negative of the other .they cancel each other out and the total displacement is 0.

i am confused as i got three different answers from u all. Bt still thanx
