OpenStudy (amistre64):

integers.... I take it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess. my teacher never taught us this

OpenStudy (amistre64):

-6 -9+16

OpenStudy (amistre64):

1 is my guess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you get that?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the "int" function strips off everything after the decimal to leave the integer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh i see! thank you!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

than the first bit is 0

OpenStudy (amistre64):

I spose that means -0.32 = 0 ? might be -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess so, but I never saw this before

OpenStudy (amistre64):

factorials are wierd that way to 0! = 1 lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wouldnt it be -6 -9 -16?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my guess would be 0-9-16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would second that.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i gotta learn to read lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh thanks so much guys! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But again, that's my guess.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-1\times 6-9+(-17)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

greatest integer less than -16.0.4 is -17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is the greatest integer function yes?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

believe so.... strip the decimals and see wahts left we think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes so it should be -6-9-17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

greatest integer[-2.3]=-3 it is the greatest integer less than -2.3

OpenStudy (amistre64):

wolfram say -32 and uses the floor function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so [-16.04]=-17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes -6-9-17=-32

OpenStudy (amistre64):

http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=int [-.32]int[6.89]-int[9.67]%2Bint[-16.04]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i was just pointing out that [-16.04] is not 16 or -16, but rather -17

OpenStudy (amistre64):

:)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

gotta head to stats; try to miss me if you can ;)
