Sorry, this is a very general answer, but it gave Americans a sense of victory in the Cold War. The fall of the Berlin Wall is considered around when the Cold War ended. It fell during the end of Reagan's presidency and so the end of the Cold War was attributed to Reagan and thus the Republican president was loved by many. It allowed George H W Bush, also a Republican, to win the next election.

the berlin wall was during john f kennedy when he was president, this made a inpact on him as there were two sides to berlin one being west, which was america and the other one being east berlin which was dominated by the opposite rule, the communists. This made struggles in america and the leader of the ussr at the time who was gorbachev were sending threats against to president kennedy and this caused, overall the whole american public and the communits public as they did were the two main superpowers and if they had started to attack then it became a major crisis for many people all over the world.
