Definitely true. At its most rudimentary level, you can say that the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was spurred by Serbians who wanted parts of Bosnia to join a greater Serbian nation. The assassination went on to lead to World War I. But this is only one of the many nationalism-based causes for World War I.

well, there was a growing sense of nationalism in germany after the franco - prussian war and the french wanted revenge for the loss of alsac and lorraine . apart from that the national minorities in western russia, balkans and ottoman empire played a significant role and of course the above mentioned assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was by Serbian extremist
