OK to go from 8m to km I know to move the decimal, but I have to be able to show it with math.

1000 meter is 1 km
therefore it will be 8/1000 km

From a 8m to kilometers is as follows.
8m * 1km/1000meters
meters cancel, leaving us with:
= 8/1000km
.008 km.

Okay. So we know that in math, anything divided by 1 is itself.
So let's call the first part of the is 8 m.
Then we are going to multiply by 1/1000.
There is 1 km for every 1000 meters. This is why we label the unit conversion this way.
Next, we do the division of 8*1/1000 which is the same as 8/1000.
When we do this we have: 8m km/1000 m.
The fact that we have meters above and below allows us to cancel, leaving us with .008 km.
