Identify the degree of each term of the polynomial and the degree of the polynomial. the degree of first term? degree of second? third? fourth? and the degree of the polynomial is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-6x^3+6x^2+3x+5

OpenStudy (amistre64):

degree is just the highest exponent value of the term

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

3,2,1,0;......3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so can u breifly explain how you got at least one of the answers?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i looked at the exponents to see what number it had, and determined that the number defines the degree of the term...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the terms are : \[-6x^3\] \[6x^2\] \[3x\] \[5\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

6x^2 has a 2 as an exponent, so its a degre of 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the degrees are the exponents, and the biggest one is 3

OpenStudy (amistre64):

its kinda like asking how tall you are, and then asking how you know your that tall. the tape measure says so :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so your looking at the x^3 x^2 x and then nothing , so the 3 is highest so that is first and then so on?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 counts as a term. its degree is 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the degree os polynomial? how did u get that one

OpenStudy (amistre64):

poly degree is just highest degree of the terms

OpenStudy (amistre64):

x^3 is highest degreed term so poly degree is 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

while we are at it there is more terminology. the LEADING COEFFICIENT is the coefficient of the term of highest degree so in this case it is -6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok gotcha woohoo thank you!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and the CONSTANT is the term of degree 0, so in this case it is 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

welcome
