solve x^2+6x-4=0
use the quadratic formula here
here a=1, b=6, c= -4 x= [-b + sqrt(b^2 - 4 ac)]/2a
just pkug in those numbers
easier here to complete the square since the middle term is +x\[x^2+6x=4\] \[(x+3)^3=4+9=13\] \[x+3=\pm\sqrt{13}\] \[x=-3\pm\sqrt{13}\]
quadratic formula forces a denominator on you and then it is a pain to simplify
x=[-6 + sqrt(6^2 -4(1)(-4))]/2(1) x=[ -6 + sqrt(36 + 16)]/2 x=[-6 + sqrt(52)]/2 x=[-6 + 2sqrt(13)]/2 x=[-3 + sqrt 13] and x= -3 - sqrt 13
i think its also good for the beginers to learn to use the quadratic formula...lol
it will be very much faster and fun to do it in calculator...lol
i won't argue but i used 3 steps all dealing with whole numbers. of course the answers are the same, but writing is simplest radical form (correctly) and then factoring and canceling (correctly) is often a can of worms
lol.....
