4r 10 h

OpenStudy (amistre64):

whatcha got?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need help with surface area of a cylinder the question is 4 r and 10 h. i dont underrstand how to calculate it

OpenStudy (amistre64):

radius=4 and height=10?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the surface of a cylindar is the circumferenceof the base times its height

OpenStudy (amistre64):

c=2pi r 8pi in this case 8pi * 10 = 80pi for the sides

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if you include the tops and bottoms you figure in for area

OpenStudy (amistre64):

pi r^2 = area ; 4pi for the top and 4pi for the bottom for a total area of 88pi

OpenStudy (amistre64):

ack.....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

4^2 = 16 not 4 .... 80+32 = 112 112pi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me make sure i understand this befor you go please

OpenStudy (amistre64):

im here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 X 4= 16 how did you get 8 pie

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the edge of a circle equals: 2pi r , the sides of your cylinder are just the outside edge of a circle streched up to 10 right? 2pi (4) = 8pi 8pi (10) = 80pi that is the area of your sidewalls

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you agree?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im in the 7th grade and trying to understand im sorry

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what do you have questions about?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i cant read your mind, no matter what grade your in :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and you are good at it. thanks for your patience. so they way got the answer is 4X4=16 and then you added 4+4 =8 X 10 = 80 +32 = 112 X 3.14 = 351.68 correct

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes, that looks to be about right...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much i think i got it. you have been very helpfull to me. have a great weekend.
