How can i multiple something? What are the rules of it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The order of operation is: PEMDAS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

meaning that you do anything in parenthesis first, exponents 2nd, multiplication/division 3rd, and finally addition/subtraction. Moving left to right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm kk just will ook at it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay looked at it but i knew pemdas,, but how can i multiple something?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you need to memorize multiplication tables. For basic example, think of multiplying like taking a number and adding it a certain number of times.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5*4 = 20, you can think of this as 5+5+5+5 =20 or 4+4+4+4+4 = 20. The five is added 4 times and the 4 is added 5 times. It doesn't matter which way you approach the problem.

hmm so i can write the equation as i want but the solution should be same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes because multiplication and addition are "commutative" meaning that you can do it in any order. But watch out for division and subtracting as different rules apply

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm ok thanks
