find 2/3 of 1/5??

OpenStudy (amistre64):

1/5 ---- = 1/5 * 3/2 = 3/10 2/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why did u change it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/5 X 2/3 = 2/15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

of means multiply

OpenStudy (anonymous):

doen't it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok this one 2/5 of 20?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20/1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow u have 76 medals thats good

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20/1 = 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nooo 2/5 of 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one fifth of twenty is four, two fifths of twenty is eight

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that 8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but i'm a long way behind amis!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did u get 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2/5 x 20 = 40/5 = 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i understand thanx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

welome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can 9/16 be reduced?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its annoying sometimes when i click on Post a window comes up and the answer is not posted

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(9/10) (7/4) what does parehtheses mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it means u multiply the fraction 9/10 by the fraction 7/4. when multiplying fractions u multiply top by top and bottom by bottom so (9/10) (7/4) = 63/40

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k thanx ill have to keep u around ure good lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey ca you help me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol - no prob

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jimmyrep can you help me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'll try beauty - u'll have to be patient though - i'm a slow typist

OpenStudy (anonymous):

beauty can u find someone else were in the mddle of something?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im okay i can wait until you guys finish sorry let me know wen u finish

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when there is a single 5 you put that on bottom and 1 on top?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5/8 x 5 where would u put 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not sure what u mean rose a single 5 is just the number 5 . 1 on top and 5 on bottom is the fraction 1/5 (one fifth)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like 5 x 1/5 where would the 1 go on 5 top or bottom im thinking top

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea is top

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok: 5/8 X 5 = 5/8 x 5/1 = 25/8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k beauty go ahead we all can do thishelp each other

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k beauty go ahead we all can do thishelp each other

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes you can write 5 x 1/5 as 5/1 x /1/5 = 5/5 = 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm did u guys finish?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes -i think so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k do i post my question here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kris algebra class has only 23 computers for the 40 students in class.what is the likelihood that kris will have to share a computer with another student in the class?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are u still there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes beauty - i'm still thinking -i'm not sure of this but i think the probability is 100 per cent as there are more students than computers are u sure u have the numbers right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes im sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh - hold on - my heads not working - 34 will share 17 computers and the other 6 will have a computer of their own - so the probability of sharing is 17/23

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did u get that 34 share 17 computer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did this by thinking of two numbers to fit 2x + y = 40

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the lielihood will be 17/23?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes -perhaps i haven't explained it very well - its really an algebra problem Have u done any algebra?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not really

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right - well without algebra its a metter of guesswork and trial. What u have to think ofis what 2 numbers when added together make 23, and when one of them is X by 2 (that is two sharing a computer) and the other is added make 40. the only 2 numbers which fit are 17 (sharing) and 6 have a computer on their own in algebra u let x = no of computer shared and y = no. not shared, so x + y = 23 2x + y = 40 and there is a way to solve these 2 'equations' to give u the answers u will learn this in future

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 17 of the computers are shared so probability = 17/23

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have to go now beauty to go to dinner. hope i've helped you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes u did thank you very much :)
