do rational numbers have common factors?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know the definition of a 'rational number'?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know that a rational number is a number that can be a ratio or a fraction and i think an integer.but the reason i ask is bc in 2 proofs ig the irrationality of 2 they used the the contridictions that it could be a fraction and that it was in its lowest term.

So you're asking about the numerator and denominator having common factors?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i think i said it wrong.at the end it says that it is a contridiction bc they are divisible by 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, ok. Well if you want to discuss the proof I'd be happy to go over it with you. But your question wasn't very clear initially about what you were asking. =)

lol my apolagies :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the its a proof of the irrationality of the square root of 2
