Can somebody explain how to find the midpoint of a line segment like P(0,0),Q(6,8)? My College Intermediate Algebra book does not explain it well...and none of my other old algebra math books even mention it.

average each coodinate: in your case it is just (3,4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The midpoint formula is (x1+x2)/2, (y1+y2)/2 (0+6)/2, (0+8)/2= (3,4)

So I divide the 1st number of each parentheses by 2, then do the same thing with the 2nd numbers in the parentheses?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The way I read my book I thought it was saying to add the numbers in a parentheses, then divide them by 2, guess that ain't right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope, add the x coordinates and divide by 2, then add the y coordinates and divide by 2. :)

Thanks. :)
