square root x+7-x=1

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

\(\sqrt{x+7-x}=1\) ? That doesn't make sense because it gives you \(\sqrt{7}=1\). :( Do you mean \(\sqrt{x}+7-x=1\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes teacher. I did mean square root x +7-x=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually. its square root x+7

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Oh, ok. So it looks like this: \[\sqrt{x+7}-x=1\]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes Sir

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add both sides x and take square of both sides \[x+7=1+2x+x^2\] \[x^2+x-6=0\] \[(x+3)(x-2)=0\] \[x_1=-3, x_2=2\]
