in ellipsoid x^2/a^2+y^2/b^2+z^2/c^2 what does 'a ,b,c' represents? plz teel me exact and correct answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a and b are the equatorial radii (along the x and y axes) and c is the polar radius (along the z-axis)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are equatorial radii and polar radius?????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's the radius along the x and y regions of the ellipsoid.. and the polar radius is from the centre of the ellipsoid to the top or the bottom of the ellipsoid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are they completly different from major and minor axis of ellipse

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/fb/Ellipsoid_321.png a = 3, b = 2, c = 1 see, a =3... meaning the radius allong the x direction is 3. the radiius along the y direction is shown to be 2. i.e. b=2 and the radius up to either the top of ellipsoid or bottom is 1.. which is your z axis, which is 1 in this case. c=1

can u tell me plz the website or notes through which i can get help of methods of drawing different ellipsoids, hyperboloids, paraboloids etc
