Ok I see the difficulty but still not sure what buttons to use sorry. The question is 3asquared * 4a. No brackets. I know this should be simple for some.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
\[3a ^{2}*4a=12a ^{3}\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
3a^2*4a= 12a^3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
coefficient are multiplied and exponents are added

So in my simple terms the answer is 12a cubed? He wasn't sure if it became cubed or squared and this was our problem.
