Can someone explain rational and irrational numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A64 your back! :D

OpenStudy (amistre64):

rational number stay put, they are well behaved and easy to point to irrational numbers fidget alot and wont stay still; every time you try to point to it, it moves a little

OpenStudy (amistre64):

:) spent the day with my kids yesterday ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cool, how many do you have?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

2 ... its a nice discrete number :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is easy Rational numbers are those numbers which can be expressed in the form p/q, where p and q are integers and q is not zero. eg : 2/3 , 5/12 etc. They have either terminating decimal expansion or non-terminating but repeating decimal expansion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And easy to handle most of the time

OpenStudy (amistre64):

most of the time yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

On the other hand irrational number are those which cannot be expressed in the form p/q eg : root2, root5 etc. Irrational numbers have a non-terminating and non-repeating decimal expansion Hope it clears things for you!!
