How can you find the equation of a line, when only given one point, (2,5)...and a picture of the line graphed out? see attached file...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know the gradient?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, I'm only given the picture and one point...(2,5)...gradient would be the same as slope, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the question is to find the equation of the line, I can only guess you have to read off another point e.g (-4,1) and yes, gradient means slope, I'm from England, we call it gradient :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll try to figure it out, I guess...thanks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Feel free to ask me if you have any more problems.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What about a problem, wanting you to find out the equation for a line, where you are only given a picture of the graphed line? see attached file..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the first one seems to have a y intercept at around 3.6 or 3.7 units just use slope intercept form and find the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What about the second picture?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the second picture, the line seems to be passing through (2,-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks...I'm probably thinking too hard , and making this too hard on myself..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and seems to have a y intercept of 0.6 or 0.7 units

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup, when not given enough information, it is sufficient to give an approximate answer.
