How would you simplify (3/2)x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can't, well, maybe 3x/2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was thinking of 3x/2x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, think about that, 3x/2x=3/2 which is clearly not the same as (3/2)x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could I just drop the parentheses, and make it 3/2x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that would work for this equation...it would give me the same slope as the other equation...making them parallel..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, you can't do that, think of multiplying a fraction by a whole number, if you multiply a quarter by 2 it doesn't become an eighth, it becomes a two quarters or a half.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ugh...I'll see what answer it gives me, when I'm done with the online practice quiz...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Trust me, it's 3x/2.
