For right/left hand limits how do you know if its positive infinity or negative...can someone explain the steps
Hoot! You just asked your first question! Hang tight while I find people to answer it for you. You can thank people who give you good answers by clicking the 'Good Answer' button on the right!
You can graph if you're in doubt. Also, you can make a table which approaches the limit from a number which is BIGGER than that number or one which is SMALLER. Example: limit 1 / x as x goes to zero... make a table: x = 1 x = 0.1 x = 0.001 x = 0.0001 etc... That is a "right limit" which is approaching from numbers LARGER than zero. You can do the same with a left limit. GRAPHING is probably the easiest to see, you just trace your finger on the graph from the left or right and see where it goes! :)
thank you!!
You're welcome. :) Two good places to graph: 1) http://www.wolramalpha.com and 2) http://www.geogebra.org both are fantastic and FREE!
