5x-y=33,5x+6y=-23

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are these simultaneous equations or do you want them solved seperately

OpenStudy (anonymous):

equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if simultaneous equations, 5x -y=33 and multiply second eq by -1 to get -5x-6y=+23 then add these together... 5x and -5x cancel. -y and -6y = -7y and finally 33 and 23 = 56 so we have -7y=56, or 7y=56, y = 56/7 = 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then you can substitute y in the first equation to find x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is unlikely that they are asking for these to be solved seperately. it is more likely they are simultaneous equations, yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes a soution on a graph with 2 points

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Note I said "so we have -7y=56, or 7y=56" this is an error, it should be 7y=-56, so y=-8 sorry bout that!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the second part is: 5x -y=33 5x-(-8)=33 5x+8=33 5x=33-8 5x=25 x=25/5 x=5 so your point is (5,-8)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks are these consistant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can check your answer by substituting x and y in the second equation as follows: 5x+6y = -23 5(5)+6(-8)=-23 25-48=-23 -23=-23 so therefore the values for x and y (5,-8) are correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-14 less then or equal to3x +4 and3x+4less then10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about it? I am new here, all of about 10 minutes new here,so don't speak shorthand yet.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you want me to solve this inequality?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay..one moment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I presume you mean -14 <=3x+4<10.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so we can divide this into 2 equations: 3x+4 =10 and 3x +4 = -14 first: 3x=10-4 3x=6 x=6/3 x=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x+4=-14 3x=-14-4 3x=-18 x=-18/3 x=-6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, your values for x go between -6 and 2 let's check a value between -6 and 2 for example lets try -2: 3(-2)+4 = -6+4 -6+4 = -2 this is between -14 and 10 therefore it is a possible answer so your answer should be -6<= x <=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In english that would read, x is greater than or equal to -6 and less than or equal to 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or put more simply x is between -6 and 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-6\ge x \le 2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like I said only 10 minutes here, so didnt realise they had an equation editor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that all Louise7413310?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or is there another problem I can help with?
