if a there are 2 sentences bet you want combine them do u put a camma or a semi-colen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you're omitting words e.g He was standing there. He was looking at me silently ------- He was standing there, looking at me silently. But if you are combining to whole sentences without omitting e.g I was mad at him. He wasn't what I thought he was. ------- I was mad at him; he wasn't what I thought he was.

You would be making an error and what is called a run-on sentence if you only put a comma between two sentences. "I ate potato chips, they were salty." It would be correct to put a semi-colon between the two sentences. "I ate potato chips; they were salty."

OpenStudy (rainbow):

Note: When using the semi-colon to connect two sentences, the two sentences should have a connection in content. If the two sentences do not have any connection, then they should remain as separate statements as two different sentences.
