what is the difference between 32-bit os and 64-bit os

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the is simply the amount of character each can hold

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When ur ram size more than 3gb,32 bit OS can't use entire ram,so yu need 64 bit os to utilize 3GB+ RAM.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

64-bit OS can take advantage of using 64-bit instructions as well as running 2 32-bit instructions simultaneously. 4 16-bit, 8 8-bit and so on. 64-bit instructions for floating point numbers are more accurate due to the higher precision. Theoretically a 32 bit app has the potential to run 2X faster in 64 bit mode but is not always the case. Also the Maximum amount of virtual address space in a 32-bit OS is 4GB. 64-bit is 2^64 power of memory.

i think in 32-bit OS , you cannot use the complete RAM but in 64-bit , you can do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in 32 bit os the bus is not wider but in 64 bit os the bus is wider and the 32 bit has 2^32 .. around 4 gb ram limit and similary 64 bit ..2^64bits

OpenStudy (anonymous):

32bit need a little spesification,64bit need more spesficition...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

32 bit means it can access (2^32) unique address locations , 2^32 operational codes for that machine , also the word length of that machine will be defined differently between the two
