When graphing an inequality, what does a dotted line represent? Why do we us it?

a dotted line represents just less than or greater than so that number on that line IS NOT included on the region. Now if was a solid like it represents less than or equal to or greater than or equal to which IS including the line
its somewhat showing the difference between \[\le <or >\ge\]

i hope that makes sense to be honest i just joined today. a website i use a lot is wolframalpha.com where it can give you a detailed anaylasis of the question your asking (mostly math)
from what ive seen though it does seen helpful although ive spend more time answering questions than studying for my test tomm >.>
