consider a equation ax^2+bx+c put c into product of two numbers such that their sum is equal to b. let the numbers are e and f ax^2+ex+fx+c taking common factor you can simplify
\[x=((-b)\pm \sqrt{b ^{2}-4ac)})\div2a\]
thanks. my equation i am working on is x^2 -x-72. how would i solve that?
yep -72 is put into two products -9 and 8 sum of -9 and 8 is -1 so satisfied x^2-9x+8x-72 x(x-9)+8(x-9) (x+8)(x-9)
sry a small mistake you should check product of a and c
in your problem 1 and -72
