Histamines are chemical substances secreted by certain cells of our body, like mast cells and certain neurons. They mediate allergic responses and act as neurotransmitters in certain parts of our body.They act on histamine receptors, on cells to mediate their action.

Histamines are important mediaters of Allergic manifestations like sneezing, feeling itchy, swelling of eyes etc. When the person gets in touch with a substance he is allergic too (called allergen) it gets released into the system. There are excellent medications available int he market for allergies that are called Anti Histamines.
