find the equation of a line perpendicular to y = -1/2x + 15 and passing through (5,14)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y = 2x+4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get the 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the slope of a line is m then the slope of a line perpendicular to the line is -1/m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont understand ur logic behind -1/m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

equation for a line is ny convention y=mx+ b where m is the slope, and b is the y intercept. a line perpendicular to your give line has a slope = -1/m <-- the slope of your original line. thus your original slope is -1/2 so the slope of your new line will be +2.

think about a line (or graph your example line) and drzw the perpendicular. If your original line slopes positive- up to the right, then the perpendicular slope down to the right- with inverse slope.
