what are the differences between longitudinal and transverse waves? i need atleast 5 points
Hoot! You just asked your first question! Hang tight while I find people to answer it for you. You can thank people who give you good answers by clicking the 'Good Answer' button on the right!
For longitudinal waves, the periodic motion travels perpendicularly to the direction of the wave. In a transverse wave, the periodic motion is in the same direction as the direction of the wave. There's one for you.
thank you. i know one more sound is a longitudinal wave while light is a transverse wave 3 more to go :(
1) Transverse wave consists of crests and troughs, whereas longitudinal wave has compressions and rarefactions. 2) When longitudinl wave travels in a medium, there are pressure variations due to the compression and rarefactions. but in case of transverse waves, there is no such pressure variation.
i think this is also true.... L.waves require material medium for propagation, whereas transverse waves need not require a medium...i.e, they can travel in vacuum. e.g: Light.
