Can anybody recommend any books or websites that would help a beginning programmer get started/develop skills? Thnx.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you should choose a programming language first. Ex: C#, Java, C++, Assembly, PHP, Python.... You must specify your field programmable. Ex: Desktop App, Web App, System, Mobile App, Network, Embedded System... Regards,

Prelude to Programming by Elizabeth Drake

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the best programming book i've ever read is The C Programming Language by Kernighan and Ritchie

Project Euler would help you greatly check the website

Look up on YouTube Stanford Programming Methodology or MIT Introduction to Computer Science...

Project Euler is awesome and I highly recommend but not to teach someone how to program, but to practise and to upskill your maths...

MIT open courseware is good, I am sure you can find some pretty good materials there.

Start with the book 'Code Complete'. It's about the programming philosophy. Along with it, you can start with Introduction to Algorithms by CLRS.

TRY THE" LET US C" BY YASHWANTH KANETKAR A BOOK ON BASIC C PROGRAMMING

I would suggest looking at http://see.stanford.edu . Click on the courses tab and take a good look at CS106A.
