How can a particle and a wave be both, i.e., an "island" and a continuum?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a wave is usually a disturbance, a transfer of energy through particles without the particles being displaced. So u can say waves are composed of particles.

It's a important question, easy to ask but hard to answer. Some people say that the waves and particles are different presentations from same essence: energy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are characteristics of both in matter, its only when we observe something that it takes the form of particle or wave, every particle can be represented as a wave and vice-versa

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No any thing can show particle and wave behavior simultaneously. It depends on the type of observation that in some observation we observe only particle behavior and in some observation we observe only wave behavior.
