sin(x)+sin(pi-x) equals...? how do you get the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can use the subtraction angle formula if it is not obvious

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but it may be clear that \[\sin(\pi-x)=\sin(x)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in which case you get 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry I'm horrible at math. what is the subtraction angle formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is \[sin(a-b)=sin(a)cos(b)-sin(b)cos(a)\] in this case use \[a=x,b=\pi\] and you will get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if u check the graph of sin x you will see that sin x = sin (pi - x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you get \[\sin(\pi)\cos(x)-\sin(x)\cos(\pi)=0-\sin(x)\times -1=\sin(x)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jimmyrep is right. if you graph them you will see the same thing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much! i have a placement test for math and this will really help me figure stuff out!
