i'm in pre algebra working on point slope intercept, i am confused over x intercept, would y be 0?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x intercept is where y = 0, yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then you solve for x. The value you end up with will be the distance on the x-axis where the line crosses it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if question is passing through (2,4) with x intercept= neg 2 It would be (2,4) (-2,o)?

OpenStudy (asadkarim7):

the coordinate of x would be equal to 0 when the line cuts the y axis.thats called y intercept. similarly when the line cuts x axis, the y coordinate would be 0.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To find the equation of the line, You must find the slope, you are correct with those 2 points, the slope is then rise/run I.E. \[(y _{2}-y_{1})\div(x_{2}-x_{1})\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then with the slope, you can calculate where the y-intercept is by using 4=<slope>2+b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think that is abit ahead of where Im at but thank you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem. :-)
