I'm trying to figure out if a trinomial is a perfect square and I think I get everything else except the middle term being twice of a times b.

ok i get this question now. if its of the form x^2+2(xy)+y^2 where its factored (x+y)^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(a + b)(a+b) use the distributive property first multiply the second bracket by a then by b so a*a +a*b + b*a + b*b the two middle terms are of the same type so ab + ab = 2ab [Not ba same as ab] the full expansion is a^2 + 2ab + b^2

another way to figure it out is doing quadratic equation where you gain 1 solution
