solve l12l= I have no idea what this is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The absolute value of 12 is 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

even the absolute value of -12 is still 12 because there are 12 units. \[\left| a \right|=a, \left| -a \right|=a \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how would i solve it? i have one that has l-4l=_?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the l12l is absolute value?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Absolute value means you ignore the sign, so you only look at the number. |-4|=4 |4|=4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok.. so there is no point to that figure. is that for all problems like with that sign?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah. personally i think it would be used for like physics when u have a negative velocity or acceleration (negative "down" is towards the ground and positive "up" is away from the ground) like earth's gravity is -9.8 m/s but the absolute value is still 9.8 m/s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or negative as in reverse from initial point but for total distance covered the value is not subtracted or lossed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks everyone. im makin harder than it needs to be!! THANX
