What are the equations for finding out the slope of a line perpendicular to a given line & the slope of a line parallel to a given line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the slope of a line can be found out by if uve got 2 points onb the line (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) the slope of the line is (y2 - y1)/(x2-x1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now if the slope of one line is m, then 1. Slope of perp line = -1/m 2. Slope of || line =m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh I get it now. So the || line has the same slope as the line given & the perpendicular line is the opposite?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the perp has the negative of the reciprocal

Yeah that's what I meant. Thank you so much. I have to do this summer packet & I just needed something to refresh my memory of my previous algebra classes. Thanks.
