okay it's break time for me. it's too much to absorb in one day. maybe this will help me understand and remember this stuff. it's been 20 years. LOL What is the importance of the order of operations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And how does it help when doing algebra?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well. . . without it, there'd be pure anarchy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If there were no standard rules to follow, everyone could just make up their own math.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you cook and follow recipes at all?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, you know sometimes you have to do things in a certain order. You have to mix your butter and your sugar, etc. to bake your cookies otherwise they won't come out right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It might not be the best analogy :\

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But, if you have 3 + 7 * 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and you follow ord of operations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you get 3 + (14) = 17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but if you don't, you get 10 * 2 = 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hope this helps
