Let C be the circle(x-1)2+(y-2)2=144 and P be the point P(10,10). Which of the Following is true? A.P is the center of C B. P is inside C, but not the center of C C. P is outside C D. P is on C E. The location of P relative to C cannot be determined How do you get the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(x-1)^2+(y-2)^2=144\] a circle with center (1,2) and radius 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so A is surely out. if it is on the circle that means the distance between (1,2) and (10,10) is 12, which you can check by pythagoras: \[9^2+8^2=145\] which is not 144! so not on the circle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in fact it tells you that (10,10) is outside the circle because the distance between (1,2) and (10,10) is bigger than 12, the radius
