Rationalize the denominator of 4 / 5 + sqrt 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i believe you must rationalize by multiplying the demon. by its conjugate. in this case 5-sqrt2. so now we have: 4(5-sqrt2)/(5+sqrt2)(5-sqrt2) which gives ( 20-4sqrt2)/25+0-2 so the final answer is (20-4sqrt2)/23
