(4x3 - 4x2 - 9x + 9) ÷ (x + 3) 4x2 + x - 9 4x2 - x + 9 4x2 - 16x + 39 - 108/(x + 3) x2 - 9

4x^2 - 16x + 39 -108/(x+3)

Here's how you do to divide (4x3 - 4x2 - 9x + 9) ÷ (x + 3): You first divide 4x^3 by x, you get 4x^2, then you multiply 4x^2 by (x + 3), getting 4x^3 + 12x^2. You subtract that from (4x3 - 4x2 - 9x + 9). (4x3 - 4x2 - 9x + 9). - (4x^3 + 12x^2) ----------------- -16 x^2 - 9x + 9. You repeat the process over and over, until there are no terms with x anymore.

you can also use synthetic division which is somewhat easier
