Typically CS Majors don't do much with design (other then UI), just letting you know. I would recommend learning C as your first language. It's not all that complicated but is quite powerful. Microsoft's Development for Beginners (covers VB, C#,.NET,and C++) http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/beginner/default.aspx W3C Schools is great for learning Web Development http://www.w3schools.com/ Other tools I would recommend for a newbie (since they are free) are: DevCPP ( http://www.bloodshed.net/devcpp.html) Notepad++ ( http://notepad-plus-plus.org/) Visual C++ Express Edition ( http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/products/2010-editions/visual-cpp-express) Read all that you can about the language, learn it, study the open source projects, practice good coding habits (camelcase, indent, comment, etc...), and you will do well.

You may want to look at "Programming Methodology - CS106A" at http://see.stanford.edu

A Bachelors Degree is good if you want to get into management, but if your not interested in management an Associates degree will be fine....and its less expensive. My best advice is attain your degree and get CERTIFICATIONS like CCNA MCIT, etc. Those will help your career a lot.

If you are interested in network security then you could go for CEH or SANS certification. They are pretty highly rated .Moreover network security is really a hot topic at present.

If you enjoy the programming methodology lectures (posted by rsmith6559), I'll suggest the rest of the stanford video lectures. http://see.stanford.edu/see/lecturelist.aspx?coll=11f4f422-5670-4b4c-889c-008262e09e4e http://see.stanford.edu/see/lecturelist.aspx?coll=2d712634-2bf1-4b55-9a3a-ca9d470755ee There are also more advanced lectures covered.
