Can someone please help me understand!? Medal will be given! How do I detail the process of polynomial division when the divisor is a monomial. Can you show me an example? How does this process change when the divisor is not a monomial?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for polynomial divided by monomial, u can just divide each term by the monomial and whatever remains is the quotient for polynomial divided by non-monomial divisor, you either find common factors between the dividend and the division and cancel them leaving the quotient or u can use long division method to divide

Can we assume we are just talking about 1 variable? (x, say).

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

- for example : 3x*3 + x*2 -6x /x = 3x*2 +x-6 3x*3 ---- - - x*2 x*2 --- -- -6x -6x ---- --

She wants both though, poly and mono (in x else it's too long to explain).

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

- and when you divide this with x-1 3x*3 +x*2 -6x/x-1 = 3x*2 +4x -2 3x*3 -3x*2 --------- -- 4x*2 -6x 4x*2 -4x -------- -- -2x -2x +2 ------ -- -2

I think between the answers you have what you need. The principal difference is the use of by-eye division with a monomial versus the long division of the poly.
