in my book it says (x^6-5x^3+6)/(x^3-2)=x^3-3. How did they divide this?...I mean what rule is being used?

Another way of looking at it is to put a=x^3 then the top equation is a^2 -5a + 6 which is an easy factorization, then sub back the x^3.
