Individuals have a tendency to measure others by their "appearance, opinions or knowledge" without being privy to the particulars. Consequently, we immediately stop paying attention to the speaker. For example, in this online environment, we do not have the ability to judge the instructor or a fellow student on looks or wardrobe. This is one less distraction to our listening ability. It allows us to focus on one's knowledge or opinion. Any thoughts?
To some measure I totally agree. I feel as though appearence really plays an impactful role on how an audience may listen or pay attention to that particular person. It's somewhat sad actually. I feel like the general term would fall under "judging" or "to judge". We never know though. That person might blow our minds away if we give them the chance.
While this is true, the reverse also needs to be taken into consideration. Dressing in a fashion that will impress your audience with help them be encouraged to hear what you have to say.
