In which direction does the right side of this graph point? f(x)=-x^4-x^3+4x-2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the ^4 is even so the normal points up in both directions; like the ends of a parabola the "-" in front tells us to flip it; so that makes it point down and to the right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

down if you consider it "pointing' anywhere

OpenStudy (anonymous):

who writes this stuff?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

somewhere in the East to South direction ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

apex precalc.. ugh worst class

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*class

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*class

OpenStudy (anonymous):

every time i write c l a s s it switches to clretrice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how do i solve this problem

hero (hero):

She doesn't mean class, she means CLASS

hero (hero):

of course I know why they did that. The last three letters in CLASS spells something un-CLASSY

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ahah yeah i guess, any idea how to solve this problem?

hero (hero):

Um, it points downWARD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha is that a guess or do you actually ahve some idea how to do this problem? bc im supper lost

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha is that a guess or do you actually ahve some idea how to do this problem? bc im supper lost

hero (hero):

Well, as amistre said, they're referring to the end points of the parabola. You don't have to guess. Just graph it for yourself and you will see...

hero (hero):

Well, it's not a parabola, but the end points of the graph point downward.... http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=-x^4-x^3%2B4x-2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

even exponents resemble "U" odd exponents resemble: " / "

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the negative sign in front just turns them over

hero (hero):

yeah, but it's negative even.....I understand what you're trying to do amistre...but she's already confused enough....just refer to it as negative even

hero (hero):

even exponent, negative coefficient

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so im just gunna say downward?

hero (hero):

Well, you'll probably also have to explain why....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope haha one word answer is all i have to put
