Given 3^(x-2) = 12x - 1, how do you solve for x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to solve it by using log...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

learn log properties and then solve it...it should be easy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um... you divided by zero... (log(1)=0)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok? so far log base 3 of both sides? x - 2 = log (12x - 1) then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this equation is much easier to solve by plugging in numbers. i dont think there is a fast way to solve it by hand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can solve it in excel fairly quickly, but there will not be an easy way to do it by hand other than iteratively
