OpenStudy (brittany):

3a/12-1/4=5a/12+1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe need some parentheses here to make it clear? or is it \[\frac{3a}{12}-\frac{1}{4}=\frac{5z}{12}+\frac{1}{2}\]?

OpenStudy (angela210793):

(3a+3)/12=(5a+6)/12 3a+3=5a+6 -2a=3 a=-3/2

OpenStudy (brittany):

it is 3a12−14=5z12+12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if so, multiply both sides by 12 carefully to get \[3a-3=5a+6\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then \[-3-6=5a-3a\] \[-9=2a\] \[a=-\frac{9}{2}\]

OpenStudy (brittany):

thankyou so much
