Start with y = x^2 Reflect it over the x-axis to get y = -x^2 Now scale it by a factor of 2 to get y = -2x^2 Next, shift the graph 3 units to the left to get y = -2(x+3)^2 Finally, move the graph up one unit to get y = -2(x+3)^2+1

so all this shows how the graph of y = -2(x+3)^2+1 is derived from y = x^2
