3. To estimate animal populations, biologists count the total number of animals in a small section of a habitat. The total population of animals is directly proportional to the size of the habitat (in acres) polled. a. Write an equation using only one variable that could be used to solve for the constant of variation k. b. A biologist counted 12 white tail deer in a 100-acre parcel of land in a nature preserve. Find the constant of variation k.
HELP!!!
c. If the entire nature preserve is 2,500 acres, then what is the total white tail deer population in the preserve? Describe how you arrived at your answer.
I got 300 deer for c... this is how did it, 12(deer)/100(# of acres) = # of deer per acre (0.12) 0.12 x 2500 = 300
So if the # of deer per acre is proportional to the entire preserve, then in 2500 acres there are 300 deer.
how would you do the first part?
Is k the total population of the area?
i believe so. i think i understand. i arrived at the same answer for c
k = #animals/area that gives you the ratio of animals to acres
Since its proportional, you can just multiply that number to the total number of acres and find the population of any number of acres
