Can someone please walk me through this? Solve: 2x^3 When x=6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

order of operations, exponents first 2 x (6)^3 means 2 x 6 x 6 x 6 multiplaction is commutative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your answer is 432

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2(6)^3 2 (6*6*6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now plug it in ur calc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why is the 2 there though? It isn't like 2(6)=12, 12x12x12?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no multiplications does not get distributed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

BEDMAS apply brackets, then exponents, division, multiplication and finally division and subtraction therefore calculate the exponent first which is 6^3 then multiply by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correction addtion and subtraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thought if it's 2(6*6*6)---same as---> 2*6*6*6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

BEDMAS??? I don't know that one...only GERMDAS and PEMDAS......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2(6)^3 =2(216) =432

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So...the 2 is separate from the 3, 6's?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no we just like to do exponents first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

always do BRACKETS FIRST THEN EXPONENTS THEN MULTIPLICATION OR DIVISION THEN SUBTRACTION OR ADDITION<-- wasnt shouting just caps lock on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's a rule then, Hahd? Wait, who uses that? I've never heard of it before.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, thank you then?????? Um, I'll move on to another question on the left...... Thank's yo!!!! xD
