Daflo just asked their first question! y = -3x^2-6x-5 trying to find the x-intercept.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

36 -4(-5)(-3) is negative

OpenStudy (amistre64):

no x intercepts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use the determinant -- \[b ^{2}-4ac\] make y=0. so you have \[-3x ^{2}-6x-5=0\] a=-3 b=-6 c=-5 so its \[(-6)^{2} -4(-3)(-5)\] 36-60 = -24 the determinant is negative, so you have no REAL solutions, but 2 complex nuber solutions

number*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whoops! i meant Discriminant, hahaha sorry about that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is zero?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the answer is "no x intercepts"; not even zero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

|dw:1314667797176:dw|

OpenStudy (amistre64):

never touches, and when you never touch, you cant intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now i can good to bed :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lol ... pleasant dreams :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

go to bed.
