Essay; show all work. Last fall, a gardener planted 87 iris bulbs. She found that only 72 of the bulbs bloomed in the spring. Find the empirical probability that an iris bulb of this type will bloom. Give answer as a fraction in lowest terms. How many of the bulbs should she plant next fall if she would like at least 88 to bloom?
87:72 88:x? x = 73 Based on precedent, she must plant at least 73 bulbs in order for 88 to boom. Do you need help on how this answer was obtained?
The actual answer was 72.8 - however was rounded due to the fact that you can't have 72.8 flowers :)
its asking for fraction in lowest term.. how did u get the answer ?
probability that a bulb will bloom is 72/ 87 or 24/29 if she needs to bloom 88 then she needs 88/x = 24/29 107 rounded
chaise you have your fractions way off
Hang on: I have them mixed around. :x
yep i got the answer there
its 106 1/3 so 107 as a rounded number
what is empirical probability?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empirical_probability i have never had to use this. its an esitmating process
oh ok.. ty :)
